The University of Rhode Island has announced the recipients of its 2011 Black Scholar Awards.

Talent Development Students who won awards this year are:

• Stephen Larbi – Martin Luther King, Jr. Award for Outstanding Leadership & Contribution to the University Community
• Albert B. Coelho – David Edmonds Award for Outstanding Artistic and Creative Expression
• Ruth Phillips – Sojourner Truth Award for Scholarly Persistence and Dedication
• John P. Brito – Saint Clair Drake Award for Outstanding Scholarly Research
• Eugenio Fernandez, Jr. – Saint Elmo Brady Award for Outstanding Achievement in Science
• Jean Aubourg – Estes Benson Award for Academic Achievement
