TD Nations Mourns the Loss of Alumna Viany Fernandez

It is with tremendous grief and sadness that the TD Nation Family recognizes the loss of one of our own, Viany Fernandez.

Viany entered URI through Talent Development in the summer of 2002. As an undergraduate, she majored in Human Development and Family Studies and also completed her masters from URI with the College Student Personnel (CSP) Program. For several years, Viany returned to her roots in TD where she worked as a Live-In Counselor over the summers. There she had a major impact on not only the TD scholars she served, but her colleagues as well.

There are so many ways to describe Viany. She was an energetic spirit; the life of the party; beautiful, inside and out; selfless; loving and a woman who set out to make the life of others better. Viany was an amazing mother, daughter, sister, relative, friend and colleague. She touched the lives of so many within her 34 years and it is most evident in the love and respect that countless people have previously expressed and continue express towards her.

Viany was a gift that was shared with us only temporarily but her legacy lives on within the Talent Development community and every other path that she crossed. This is a major void and she will be greatly missed.

Visiting hours are Wednesday, April 18 from 4-7 pm at A.A. Mariani and Son Funeral Home located at 200 Hawkins Street, Providence, RI 02904. Mass will take place Thursday, April 19 at 11 am at St. Michael’s Church, 251 Oxford St. in Providence, Rhode Island. Memorial donations in memory of Viany may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at www.donate.lls.org and cards may be sent to the attention of the Fernandez family at the funeral home.
