The TickEncounter Resource Center at the University of Rhode Island is working every day to raise tick literacy and guide people to best tick bite protection practices. With forward-thinking initiatives like our new Just-in-Time learning programs including Be Ready For Ticks and TickSmart Google calendar download, we’re educating and empowering more and more people to take appropriate, effective action before and after a tick bite.

Our TickSpotters program continues to receive thousands of submissions annually — ticks from every U.S. state, Canadian province, many Mexican states and elsewhere. These reports, collected since 2014 are providing critical tick surveillance data and are allowing us to assess annual and seasonal tick trends while we provide every submission with a tailored, time-sensitive disease risk assessment and TickSmart™ prevention information. We consider this free-to-the-public program to be one of our most important endeavors and we need your help this year more than ever to raise the funds to keep it going. Salesforce license fees and intern stipends alone cost about $7,000 each year.

You know it – there are ticks in more places than ever before. So, how much would you spend to make sure that your family, friends, or even you have a go-to expert resource for every tick encounter? We ask you to consider a tax-deductible $20 one-time or recurring contribution today. Or consider becoming a sustaining partner with a larger gift.
