Diane Martin started as a patternmaker for Philippa of Boston in bridal, continued onto Royal Robes in leisurewear, then onto Stevens Sportswear in children’s wear. In 1986 she started teaching and developing the URI Master Seamstress I Program. In 1992 she expanded the program to include Master Seamstress II courses for those who wanted to further their education. These programs are one of a kind. She has also coordinated the Rhode Island Sewing Network along these same years to present.
She lives on a 100 acre farm in North Smithfield with her husband where they raise beef cattle. She has two daughters in the health science fields living and working in the Boston area.
Apparel construction, fitting, patternmaking, draping, and drafting, along with specialty fabrics such as bridal, lingerie, swimwear, and activewear.
