Pay only half fare on RIPTA. All students, faculty, and staff are eligible to purchase a 50% discounted monthly pass, 50% discounted day pass or a 50% discounted hour pass, available at the Campus Store, in the lower level of the Memorial Union.
Easy to Pay. The Wave is RIPTA’s new smart fare collection system. It’s a convenient way for passengers to ride RIPTA with either a smart card or their smart phone. You can reload your Wave smart card or set up a new account with a $5 activation fee and receive a new Wave smart card.
Payment can also be made with cash, credit card or Ram Card. Students may use the Ram Account Kiosk machine by the Dining and ID Office in the Memorial Union to put cash on their Ram Card for use for purchasing. A University ID is required to make a purchase. Discounted passes cannot be purchased for use by others or for resale.
Frequent Service. Frequent RIPTA service is available to and from:
South Kingstown/Narragansett. Route 69 was recently added to continue service between URI and South Kingstown/Narragansett.
Providence. Route 66 provides service to and from Providence (including the train station) to URI.
Bay Campus and East Bay. Route 64 links the Bay and Kingston campuses with Newport and connects to Route 60, which serves the East Bay from Providence to Newport; Please click on each link to see the most recent route schedule and a route map. A complete schedule of RIPTA buses and URI Shuttles traveling to and from the Bay Campus can be found here.
Flex Service. RIPTA also offers Flex Service as a public transportation option to areas that have little or no fixed-route service. The name Flex is short for flexible service because it offers passengers the option of picking up the Flex van at a scheduled stop or choosing their own pick-up or drop-off point within the designated Flex Zone. Flex provides local service within its zone as well as connections to RIPTA’s network of statewide service.
To use Flex Service, passengers can either make a reservation 24 hours in advance by calling 401-784-9500 ext. 1220 or boarding the Flex Vehicle at any of the scheduled Flex Stops within the Flex Zone. The fare structure for Flex is the same as RIPTA’s fixed-route bus service.
Flex Service expands the menu of mobility options for state residents, providing them with convenient, affordable transportation within their communities and an opportunity to make seamless connections to other locations in the State.
Students who need special assistance getting to and from campus can enroll in the RIPTA RIde program and may obtain a full ride fare waiver when presenting both their valid URI ID and RIde ID card at the Campus Store, in the lower level of the Memorial Union. Faculty and staff who are enrolled in the RIPTA RIde program will receive a 50% discount off the RIde fare product with their valid URI ID and Ride ID card.
