Undergraduate Admission

The first thing you will need to determine is your eligibility to apply either as a first-year or transfer student. We encourage first year and transfer students to review the admission requirements below that pertain to you:

For undergraduate Admission questions, contact the admission counselors for veterans and active duty personnel.

Graduate School inquiries may be directed to their Contact Us page.

First Year Students

URI will waive the application fee for all U.S. military veteran undergraduate applicants. Please ensure you identify as a veteran on the Common Application. Dependents of veterans are not eligible for the application fee waiver.

Your application will be reviewed when the URI Office of Admission has received all materials below:

  • Essay (pharmacy applicants must include an additional paragraph explaining their choice of major)
  • Official high school transcript (preferably through the Common Application)

Transfer Students

URI will waive the application fee for all U.S. military veteran undergraduate applicants. Ensure that you identify as a veteran on the Common Application.

Your application will be reviewed when the Office of Admission has received all of these materials:

  • Visit the application management portal to access your transfer status.
  • Official transcripts must be sent to URI Admission electronically by the institution. Personally emailed transcripts are unofficial and we cannot use them. Please have your institution email official transcripts to transferadmission@uri.edu.
  • Official high school transcript may be sent if you do not have an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a subject similar in content to what is offered at URI.
  • If you have more than 60 credits, you must choose a major other than “Undecided.”

Transfer Admission Requirement:

If you have attempted at least 24 transferable credits:

  • You must earn a minimum 2.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), and be in good standing and eligible to return to institutions attended previously.
