Oats

Scientific Name: Avena sativa Oat extract is used to soothe skin conditions. It is the principal ingredient for the Aveeno line of products. Immature flower heads used in herbal tea as “milky oats.”

Scientific Name: Acmella oleracea The aerial parts contain spilanthol, which creates a numbing sensation and increases salivation when chewed.

Turmeric

Scientific Name: Curcuma longa Used in Aryuvedic medicine for treatment of indigestion and inflammatory ailments. Curcumin, a phenol derived from the plant has been the subject of numerous clinical trials for a range of diseases and is the source of the yellow coloring.

Scientific Name: Lobelia cardinalis The Iroquois had many medicinal uses for cardinal flower. The root was boiled together with the root of Cichorium intybus and the liquid was used to treat fever sores.
