Online Teaching/Distance Learning

The task force on Online Teaching/Distance Learning will develop recommendations that will support the development and delivery of online curriculum and distance learning degree and certificate programs.

Specifically, the task force should:

  • Provide guidance on processes and structures needed to expand online offerings every semester, including J-terms (January, June, and July).
  • Determine the barriers for developing online courses and programs and make recommendations to address or remove them.
  • Recommend guidelines for improving faculty development and support in online learning technologies (e.g., Online Institute), including appropriate incentives.
  • Identify hardware and software requirements needed to adequately support effective and efficient distance learning education
  • Identify potential online degree (major and/or minor) or certificate programs that could be developed based on current strengths and expertise that are consistent with areas of focus in the Academic Plan (e.g., biotechnology, health and wellness, renewable energy, information technology, ”green” economy, etc.).
  • Identify target markets for online/distance learning programs, including unemployed and/or underemployed Rhode Island workers as well as international audiences.
  • Recommend potential online programs that capitalize on continuing education and lifelong learning opportunities.
