Couple and Family Therapy

Program Learning Outcomes

Student learning outcomes conform to Department, College, and University expectations of measurement and assessment. Student outcomes are reviewed by and conform to the policies of URI’s Student Learning and Outcomes Office (SLOA) as well as the University Learning Outcomes and Oversight Committee (LOOC). Student learning outcomes are informed by the Principles of the Profession of Marriage and Family Therapy including:

  • MFT Educational Guidelines
  • AAMFT core Competencies
  • AAMFT Code of Ethics
  • AMFTRB Guidelines
  • RI State Licensure Regulations

The goals of the students are to:

  1. Apply knowledge of their professional field
  2. Demonstrate the ability to evaluate their effectiveness in providing CFT services
  3. Represent the CFT profession by maintaining ethical principles and best practice standards

The learning outcomes of the students are to:

1. Apply knowledge of their professional field. The students will:

  • evaluate CFT theories
  • apply current research related to child and family studies
  • articulate their own working theory of clinical practice

2. Demonstrate the ability to evaluate their effectiveness in providing CFT services. The students will:

  • monitor clinical outcomes using empirically derived data to make appropriate therapeutic adjustments
  • implement a personal program to develop and maintain professional competence and effective practice

3. Students will represent the CFT profession by maintaining ethical principles and best practice standards. The students will:

  • understand the process of making an ethical decision in CFT
  • demonstrate responsible conduct in regard to workplace policies
  • collaborate with other service professionals
  • demonstrate cultural competence in diverse work settings
