As of Spring 2017:

  • 73% of IEP freshmen say that the IEP played a role in their decision to come to URI or that they attended URI exclusively because of the IEP
  • Appx. 405 engineering students in the IEP
  • Appx. 32% of IEP students are women
  • Appx. 55% of IEP students are in-state Rhode Islanders; 45% are out-of-state, regional or international students
  • The IEP also services students in the International Business Program and International Computer Science Program, and overlaps with The Chinese Language Flagship Program
  • Since 1990, over 668 students have been placed in international internships through the International Engineering Program


  • Students earn two degrees simultaneously, one in engineering and one in Chinese, French, German, Italian or Spanish. No prior foreign language experience required.
  • Students spend a semester studying abroad followed by an internship abroad.

  • Two houses just for IEP students with a strong community atmosphere.
