Chestnut Orchard Research Project

2097 East Farm Rd | South Kingstown, RI 02881

In 2009, the URI Master Gardeners joined this on-going 30-year project involving the planting and maintenance of two orchards designed to help The American Chestnut Foundation develop hybrid chestnut trees that will have the characteristics of the doomed American chestnut with the blight resistance of the Chinese chestnut. This national project involves the South Kingstown Trust, the URIMGP, the American Chestnut Foundation, and the South County Garden Club. Financial support is supplied by all partners.
