Cumberland Monastery

1464 Diamond Hill Road | Cumberland, RI 02864

The goal of the Cumberland Monastery is to teach the public how to plant a sustainable garden. With assistance from URI Master Gardeners, local residents jointly care for the garden. Each year there is a new season-long topic to discuss which involves planting new plants and observing them.

The third Saturday of the month from March to October, there is a group work day. Each month the crew gets a lesson on a different horticultural topic. A series of lectures for the public are arranged in the spring at the Cumberland Library, which is located on the Monastery grounds.

Along with local gardening clubs and the Town of Cumberland, there is a Plant Sale Day in May which is open to the public. Plant sales, demonstrations, soil testing, and talks on gardening topics are given for all to enjoy.
