East Farm Demonstration Garden

1 East Farm Road | South Kingstown, RI 02881

The East Farm Demonstration Garden provides an educational facility for URI Master Gardeners and the public. The 8,500 sq. ft. vegetable garden is completely maintained by URI Master Gardener volunteers, and the site offers a number of gardening demonstrations including:

  • Container gardening
  • Vegetable trellises
  • Raised beds
  • Crop rotation
  • Companion planting for pest control
  • Wide rows and mulched paths for weed control,
  • Drip irrigation

In addition, we have an herb garden, composting operation and a perimeter perennial and native flower garden. Our garden and harvesting volunteers are trained in Good Agriculture Practices (GAP) and our garden is RI GAP certified. All the vegetables produced are donated to local community food pantries.

Other than planting, garden maintenance, and harvesting, we provide Saturday public huddles during the season on a variety of garden topics, as well as an Open House with professional and amateur cooking demonstrations and garden talks. The Open House occurs in August and is provided free to the general public.
