Lorraine Eunice Julian Hall Addiction Studies Scholarship for Nursing Students

The College of Nursing is pleased to announce the creation of the Lorraine Eunice Julian Hall Addiction Studies Scholarship for Nursing Students. This annual scholarship will support one or more graduate or undergraduate URI College of Nursing  student to attend the New England Institute of Addiction and Prevention Studies annual four-day 31 CEU summer course (offered in June).

The family and friends of  Lorraine Hall  established this scholarship in her memory.  Lorraine Hall was a talented nurse and addiction counselor. Lorraine E. J. Hall received her Bachelor’s degree from Bates College and her Masters from Yale School of Nursing in the 1950s. She was a compassionate and caring visiting nurse.  She married Dr. Charles A. Hall, Jr., a physician for 29 years at Aquidneck Medical Center and Newport Hospital.  She lived in Middletown, R.I. for most of her married life.  Her father-in-law, Charles A. Hall Senior, URI Class of ’32, worked for URI alumni and public relations for 30 years and founded the URI Century Club.  Her mother-in-law, Mildred Hall, was a talented cellist.  A fund in Mildred Hall’s memory is available for the URI music library.  After raising her three daughters in the 1960s and 70s, Lorraine returned to graduate studies, receiving her Master of Arts in Education, Counseling and Guidance in 1980 from URI  She worked for several years at the Rhode Island (now Coastline) Employee Assistance Program in Warwick, R.I. as an addiction counselor until her untimely death from breast cancer in 1990.

Students are welcome to apply for the Lorraine E. Julian Hall Addiction Studies Scholarship by  submitting  a statement describing their career goals and interest in addiction studies.  Please include your first and last name, student ID#, email and phone number.  Please submit this information via email and include Hall Addiction Studies Scholarship in the subject line.  Email submission to  Jessica Boisclair at Deadline is January 31, 2017.
