Anthony Quinn Transcending Rolls
September 1 — October 2, 2015
Gallery Night Reception September 17, from 5-9pm
Anthony Quinn was truly a Renaissance Man: father, husband, friend, actor, painter, sculptor, writer, philosopher who loved nature, music, dancing, chess, and playing with his children and pets. Born in Mexico, Quinn played characters representing every culture across the globe, for which he was adopted by people of all nations for his respectful personification of them on the screen.
The exhibit commemorates the 100th Anniversary of Anthony Quinn’s birth. It will feature 100 professional and personal photographs taken throughout his life, many never before displayed from the Quinn Foundation and private family archives. Movie posters and original works of art in a variety of media will also be on display. This ground breaking exhibit will be combined with a screening of Viva Zapata!, the 1952 film starring Marlon Brando and directed by the legendary Elia Kazan, for which Quinn won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
The film will be part of the Providence Latin American Film Festival which will take place from Thursday, October 1 through Sunday, October 4. Viva Zapata! will screen at URI Providence Campus on Friday, October 2nd followed by a panel discussion of Anthony Quinn’s acting and artistic achievements.
