Natural History Survey honors late reporter for environmental coverage

More than 100 persons attended the 16thAnnual Conference of the RI Natural History Survey March 29 to hear various speakers on wildlife interaction issues and also to honor the late Peter Lord, a CELS graduate who was the environmental reporter for the Providence Journal.Lord, who died of a brain tumor a few days after the award was presented, was given the survey’s coveted annual award, the 2012 RI Distinguished Naturalist Award, for his many articles on environmental issues, ranging from oil spills to a special series on conservation issues on Block island.Lord, was not able to attend the ceremony but Thomas Heslin, executive editor of the Providence Journal, accepted the award on his behalf.
