Michelle Fontes-Barros, Assistant Director of Diversity, Recruitment and Retention, is dedicated to fostering a sense of community throughout CELS and to providing support for underrepresented students. She is here specifically to help you find resources and to connect you with people and opportunities.
Michelle Fontes-Barros serves diverse students within the College of the Environment and Life Sciences (CELS) and exposes them to opportunities within the CELS community. She provides support for students, faculty, and staff while offering particular assistance to underrepresented populations. She collaborates with other colleges within and outside of URI to provide access to student internships, research, and scholarships while actively coordinating student diversity initiatives focused on recruitment and retention. Additionally, she serves as co-chair on the University’s Equity Council that advocates, promotes, and helps sustain diversity and equity throughout the entire URI campus community. She also chairs the Alumni Color Network (ACN) which serves both the students and alumni of color populations.
