Diane Kern

Biography

Dr. Diane Kern is a Professor in the School of Education at the University of Rhode Island, USA. She is the program coordinator for the Secondary English Language Arts Education program and teaches courses in education psychology, classroom management, disciplinary literacy, and English language arts teaching methods.

Previously, she taught for fourteen years in public schools in urban, suburban and rural school districts located in Florida and Rhode Island.

Her research interests include bridging the gap between research and literacy teacher
education, standards for the preparation of literacy professionals, developing her own and teachers’ cultural competence, and increasing access to college and teacher education programs for people who have been traditionally marginalized or under-represented in the profession.
