In order to be eligible for the URI Chinese Language Flagship Program, applicants must possess the following:

  • Commitment to intensive study of Chinese, including during some summer terms
  • Commitment to an academic year of study and professional internship in China/Taiwan
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status

Preferred qualifications

  • Strong academic background in a world language, indicated by demonstrated proficiency in the language, GPA, long-term commitment to the language, and involvement in extracurricular activities related to the target language and culture
  • Eligibility for the URI Honors Program
  • Demonstrated leadership and community involvement
  • Strong time management skills
  • Professional goals involving the use of the Chinese language
