A team comprising researchers at URI (Noah Daniels, Hollie Putnam, and Andrew Powers), Tufts University (Lenore Cowen, Alva Couch, Polina Shpilker, and Liam Strand), and Drexel University (Jane Greenberg) has released version 1.0 of the MEDFORD metadata description language and its parser, medford.
MEDFORD (MEtaData Format For Open Reef Data) is a lightweight markup language for descriping research data, originally intended for coral reef datasets. The MEDFORD language is designed for researchers to easily describe, annotate, and reference the numerous datasets, software packages, and papers involved in their work.

Text editor language support, developed by URI undergrad Andrew Powers and Tufts undergrad Liam Strand, is available for Microsoft Visual Studio Code via its extension marketplace.
