Abdeltawab Hendawi was awarded Best Demo Paper at the 26th IEEE International Conference on Mobile Data Management (MDM) in June. The project investigates how real-time, user-contributed data combined with large language models (LLMs) can transform pedestrian navigation on urban sidewalks, especially for those with differing mobility needs. The work includes development of algorithms, spatial data structures, and artificial intelligence (AI) models for sidewalk feature identification to provide safer accessibility routing and services on sidewalks. The MDM series of conferences has served as a forum for the exchange of innovative and significant research results in mobile data management since 1999.
