Abstract:
Ed Lamagna, Professor of Computer Science at URI, has served on the URI faculty for 50 years, arriving in the Fall of 1976. His professional interests lie at the intersection of computer science and mathematics. In particular, Ed contributes to the fields of computer algebra and the design and analysis of algorithms. Throughout his career, he has actively been involved in the development of innovative approaches for teaching and learning computer science and mathematics. Ed’s book Computer Algebra: Concepts and Techniques explores the design and implementation of these mathematical software systems. This talk will focus on several representative projects and issues Ed has worked on over the years.
