Biography

I am an associate professor of Professional and Public Writing at the University of Rhode Island, where I direct the First Year Writing program and the Digital Writing  and Research Studio and am affiliate faculty with URI’s Digital Writing Environments, Location, & Localization Lab. I research justice-oriented approaches to curriculum design and writing assessment, teach courses on digital rhetoric and generative artificial intelligence, and work with K-12 and post-secondary educators to foster critical digital literacies and media-rich writing practices for more sustainable futures. My research elevates the status of and shifts the conversation about the purpose and goals of teaching writing by centering relationships among people, digital tools, and the natural world as primary learning outcomes. My research has received prestigious awards from writing studies’ flagship professional organization, College Composition and Communication, and has been funded by The National Writing Project and The National Science Foundation.
