DWELL Lab is excited to announce that John Craig Freeman will be visiting the University of Rhode Island as a Harrington Visiting Artist from April 22-26, 2024. Freeman is an artist with over three decades of experience using emerging technologies to invent new forms of large-scale public work. With his work, Freeman expands the notion of ‘public’ by exploring how digital technology and mobile networks are transforming our sense of place.
His work will be of interest to departments across URI and is directly connected to social media and video communication, virtual reality, new media and society, and showcases innovative applications of work that connects film, writing, and public communication. You can find more about his work here and an introduction video about his work.
During his visit at URI, Freeman will discuss his community-engaged work with augmented reality and other emerging technologies. In addition, he will showcase his AI/AR work and introduce his exhibit, the The MyStory AI Cycle Series. He will also participate in various course lectures and host workshops for students interested in creating similar projects in AI/AR.
