Biography

Ellen Fritz is an animator and technologist creating artworks that map histories and imagine futures of speculative ecological worlds. Through these environments informed by scientific research and data projections, she aims to visualize the branching futures of a non-Anthropocentric world. Her practice involves both physical and digital media– painting, gameplay, 3D animation– with physical mediums serving as stagnant diagrams of the ever-evolving digital worlds. She received her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, where she studied Painting and Computation Technology, connecting 3D digital simulation and the illusion of space through 2D artworks. Climate futurism is a central focus of Ellen’s work— she aims for her VR and AR imaginings of possible climate scenarios to help mitigate fear of a future dictated by climate change and ecological disruption, and instead facilitate a mindset of communal adaptation. At DWELL, Ellen will be contributing her skills in 3D modeling, animation, and VR environment building to create immersive digital experiences that communicate scientific concepts.
