Biography

I am currently a Master’s Student in the Biological and Environmental Sciences program at the University of Rhode Island, specializing in Evolution and Marine Biology. Prior to URI, I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Environmental Studies from Bowdoin College. Broadly, my research interests lie in ecology and marine biology, with a particular emphasis on how species and communities organize themselves in space and time. As an undergraduate, I examined the impacts of carbon dioxide and nitrogen enrichment on leaf surface anatomy and photosynthesis of the invasive common reed, Phragmites australis. In the Wetherbee Lab at URI, I study the movement ecology of shortfin mako sharks (Isurus oxyrinchus) in the Western North Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico, using satellite telemetry and machine learning methods to develop habitat suitability models. Finally, I am also pursuing a Certificate in Science Writing and Rhetoric, with a particular interest in using digital and alternative media tools for public engagement. I plan to graduate in May 2023.
