The Engineering for Democracy Institute (EDI) is providing a free application (Every Minute Counts: Voter Operations & Experience [EMC*VOX] App) (the “Application”) for academic data collection as relates to the timing of polling place processes for elections in the United States of America.

EDI is also committed to respecting your privacy. This privacy policy describes the privacy practices employed for the Application and details what information the Application collects about you, how your information is used, with whom it is shared, and how we protect it.

Information Collection and Use

While using the Application, we will provide users with a login code that may be used to identify you.

Data Collection

When you access the Application by or through a mobile device, we collect certain information. This includes the username and password provided to you by your research organization, your assigned organization, and the time of your last sign-in. It also includes the observation data you enter, such as details about the location you are observing, timing measurements of activity at that location, and any notes you choose to add. It does not use analytics or advertising services, and it does not collect personal information.

The Application does not track you.

You can stop all data collection at any time by uninstalling the Application using your device’s standard uninstall process. Uninstalling does not remove data you have already submitted; to request deletion of your account and associated data, contact us at edi@etal.uri.edu.

Location Information

The location data we collect is limited to what the User enters based on the app’s set of parameters and may be shared as part of open-source research by academics who request it. The data is related to the inputs only and Users’ locations are not tracked.

Children’s Privacy

The Application is provided for the use of persons age eighteen years or older (18+) who have permission to download and access our Application. If a parent or guardian becomes aware that his or her child has provided us with information without their consent, he or she should contact us at edi@etal.uri.edu. We will delete such information from our files within a reasonable time.

Policy Changes

This privacy policy adheres to URI’s Acceptable Use Policy. We will provide additional notice of significant updates, and will post the date our Policy was last updated below.

Questions or Concerns

If you have any questions regarding privacy while using the Application, or have questions about our practices, please contact us via email at edi@etal.uri.edu.

This policy is under review as of October 20, 2026.
