M.A. in Educational Leadership and Policy
Admission
Admission Requirements:
- Three years of professional teaching experience (or will have three years by the time of certification). Required for RI certification.
- A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education in the United States or a foreign institution of acceptable standing.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better in the undergraduate career is evident on official transcripts from the institution.
- Personal Statement (3-4 pages)
- Candidates should consider the following questions when developing their personal statement.
- Why are you interested in pursuing the Educational Leadership & Policy program at the University of Rhode Island?
- Identify the key competencies you bring to the program. Describe how they will enhance your effectiveness as a leader.
- Reflect on your leadership qualities and identify areas where you seek to improve through this program.
- How do you plan to contribute to the educational community during and after completing this program?
- Why do you believe you are a good fit for this program and the field of educational leadership?
- Candidates should consider the following questions when developing their personal statement.
- Two (2) letters of recommendation indicating leadership potential.
- One letter should be from your principal.
- Leadership Dispositions Candidate Self Assessment
- Completed Online Application via the URI Graduate School
- Application Fee
Upon acceptance into the Educational Leadership & Policy program, candidates must submit the following documents:
- Superintendent Letter of Support indicating that the candidate has fifteen days of release time for clinical experiences during the program.
- Release of Records for program faculty and staff to communicate with the superintendent and building administrator.

Tuition and fees for graduate degrees at URI can be found on the URI Enrollment Services page. The EDL program is not eligible for regional residency.
