Education Doctorate, Ed.D.
Admission
Applicants to the Ed.D. must hold a master’s degree from an accredited institution in education or a closely related field. In addition, applicants should have substantial professional experience doing educational work in PK-12 education, higher/adult education settings, nonprofit, government, or industry settings. Preference will be given to candidates who have held (and are looking for continued) roles involving educational leadership, curricular/program design, policy implementation, organizational improvement, or workforce development.
Admission Requirements
A complete application includes:
- Current résumé or curriculum vitae summarizing professional experience, leadership roles, academic preparation, and relevant accomplishments.
- A personal statement (1,000–1,500 words) describing:
- Your professional background and motivation for pursuing the Ed.D.
- Your career and leadership goals associated with the doctoral degree.
- A stated commitment to, and plan for balancing the program’s academic demands with professional responsibilities.
- A preliminary problem of educational practice the applicant hopes to explore in the Ed.D. program
- Two letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to the applicant’s capacity for doctoral-level study, leadership potential, and ability to manage the demands of the program. We recommend that one letter be from a former professor or academic advisor.
