House Care & Maintenance:
All students are responsible for the care of their rooms and the general upkeep of the house. Residents agree to maintain the building in good condition. If a resident(s) causes damage, the resident(s) will be billed for repairs. Damages include, but are not limited to: holes in the walls, burns, scratches, stains, broken furniture, etc.
Noise:
The IEP and TI Houses are part of an administrative center for the International Engineering Program as well as a place of residence. Be respectful of others’ needs by keeping noise at reasonable levels. Do not loiter in the hallways.
Alcohol Policy:
Rhode Island law prohibits the possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages by persons under the age of 21. Students of legal age may have alcoholic beverages in their rooms. In all cases, the consumption of alcohol or possession of an open container of alcohol is prohibited in any area outside of a student’s room. In accordance
with Rhode Island law, purchasing alcohol for anyone under 21 is illegal. Any infractions with regards to alcohol will be handled through the University’s disciplinary procedures.
Drug Policy:
The use of any illegal drug in the house is forbidden. If a resident or his/her guest uses or possesses any illegal drug or drug paraphernalia (as defined by the URI Student Handbook), in the house or on property, the IEP reserves the right to evict that resident. With eviction, the student rent is forfeited.
Guests:
Residents can have guests. Residents are responsible for their guest’s conduct and will also be held accountable for any
violations of the University and IEP/TI House Policy, Rules, and Regulations, as well as
damages and/or loss of property caused by their guests
Day guests are allowed as long as they do not infringe upon the rights of residents. Residents are
responsible for their guests and any action or disturbance caused by a guest will be considered an
action or disturbance caused by the resident. The IEP/TI house holds the right to ask any guest to
leave and/or not return.
Overnight guests are permitted, with your roommate’s permission, for a maximum of three consecutive
nights, not to exceed 6 nights total per month. You must register your guest with the IEP Office if they
are staying longer than one night. Guests are not permitted to consume ANY food from the TI dining room. The food is for residents only.
A person in the IEP/TI house who is not an IEP/TI resident and is not a guest of an IEP/TI house
resident will be considered a trespasser. Trespassers should be reported to the IEP/TI house staff
and/or to the Department of Public Safety.
Meals:
Meals are provided by the IEP chef and hot meals are served during the week. The kitchen is closed on the weekends but left-overs and food staples are provided. Please note, there may be times when the IEP is unable to provide food (i.e. power outages due to inclement weather or acts of God). On these rare occasions it will be up to
the individual student to seek out and obtain their own food. The IEP is not responsible for providing food when its facilities are inoperable.
Pets:
No animals or pets, with the exception of fish in properly maintained aquariums of 20 gallons or less, are permitted in the house.
Smoking:
Smoking is prohibited from all areas inside the houses. As per Rhode Island law, persons are prohibited from smoking within 50 feet of the buildings.
Laundry:
Laundry is restricted to residents only. Washers and Dryers are located in each building.
Safety & Security:
All residents are responsible for reading and observing all University fire safety guidelines. Residents are expected to take reasonable measures to protect their own property by locking their room door and exclusively retaining their assigned key cards. Outside doors must remain securely closed at all times. The University and the
International Engineering Program do not take any responsibility for personal items.
Violations of any house rules are subject to university disciplinary procedures.
We expect that all members of the URI Housing community—residents, staff and visitors—act in a manner that demonstrates respect and consideration for those around them, including respect and consideration for the health and wellbeing of all community members. All residential students are prohibited from creating a health or safety hazard within URI residence halls or leased properties, and the University may request or require a resident to leave URI Housing or leased properties if their continued presence in the housing community poses a health or safety risk for community members. Residential students are required to comply with health and safety laws, orders, ordinances, regulations, and health and safety guidance adopted by the University or IEP Housing as it relates to public health crises, including COVID-19. This guidance will evolve as the public health crisis evolves and may include, but is not limited to: social distancing, limitations on mass gatherings, wearing a face covering, COVID-19 diagnostic and surveillance testing (including before or upon arrival to campus), contact tracing, disinfection protocols, limitations on guests into residence halls or leased properties, and quarantine/isolation requirements (including before or upon arrival to campus). Adherence to health and safety requirements applies to all residents, staff and visitors, and extends to all aspects of residential life, including bedrooms, bathrooms, community spaces, lounges, courtyards and other common spaces.
