Transfer Admission Requirements

General URI Transfer Admission Requirements  

  • All students must meet basic college-preparatory unit requirements (typically completed in high school): 4 in English, 3 in math (Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry), 2 in science, 2 in history/social science, and 2 units in the same foreign language. 
  • If you have attempted fewer than 24 transferable credits you must earn a minimum 2.8 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and meet all freshman admission requirements. 
  • If you have attempted at least 24 transferable credits you must earn a minimum 2.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).  
  • If you have earned an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, you must earn a minimum 2.4 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).

Engineering Transfer Admission Requirements   

  • Demonstrated success in previously attempted math, science, and engineering courses  
  • Pre-Calculus at the college level with a “B” or better 

Application Deadlines 

  • Spring Admission: December 15 
  • Fall Admission: June 1  
  • Transcripts are due no later than 10 days after the application deadline.

Application Process  

Transfer applicants are required to use the Transfer Common Application and submit official transcripts. Submitting “School Forms” is not required. A completed application includes:  

  • Completed Transfer Common Application submitted online  
  • Application fee  
  • Official electronic or official printed transcripts from all post-secondary institutions whether or not you desire or expect to receive credit for such work. Electronic transcripts should be e-mailed to transferadmission@uri.edu.  
  • Official high school transcript unless you have an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a subject similar in content to what is offered at URI.  
  • If you have fewer than 24 credits, you must have your SAT or ACT scores sent electronically to URI by the testing agency. 

Credit Transferability 

ABET (www.abet.org) accredits both Engineering programs and Engineering Technology programs. However, these two programs are different and distinct. Therefore, the College of Engineering will not accept any engineering technology courses for transfer credits toward a Bachelor of Science Engineering degree. 

Transfer Scholarships

No separate application is required for our merit-based scholarships, but all students who would like to be considered for any merit award must apply by June 1 for fall and December 1 for spring, and submit all supporting documents by June 15 for fall and January 15 for spring. Merit awards are not available to students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree.

Transfer Merit Award 

Preference for our highest-level awards will be given to students with:  

  • A minimum of 24 transferable college credits (based on a semester system) in a diversified program of study.  
  • A cumulative grade point average of 3.3. 

Scholarships are renewable for up to six consecutive semesters, as long as the student maintains full-time enrollment and a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. 

Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship 

Awarded to Phi Theta Kappa scholars holding an associate degree who have achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.5. Additional eligibility requirements include: 

  • Current membership in Phi Theta Kappa  
  • URI must be your first four-year institution 

Scholarships are renewable for up to four consecutive semesters, as long as students maintain full-time enrollment and a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.  

CCRI to URI Engineering Program Transfer Plans

Below are the engineering program transfer plans for the major you are interested in. We encourage you to work closely with the College of Engineering at URI along with the CCRI Engineering Department to ensure you are progressing through this coursework as seamlessly as possible.

It is strongly recommended you complete all coursework as outlined on the transfer plan, earning a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA, and seek admission to URI as a transfer student to begin for a Fall semester. 

Note: Once you have been admitted to URI, the curriculum sheet for your B.S. major that you are eligible to follow as a URI student is the one for the first academic year (catalog year) in which you matriculate (are enrolled in a degree program) at URI. For example, if you matriculated at URI in either fall 2023 or spring 2024, the first curriculum sheet you can follow is Catalog Year 2023. Please review the curriculum sheet for your intended URI major to become familiar with the remaining degree requirements you must complete upon admission.

IEP (International Engineering Program): IEP is an unparalleled experience for students looking to become truly global engineers. IEP graduates earn two degrees simultaneously: a B.S. in an engineering discipline and a B.A. in Chinese, French, German, Italian, or Spanish, as well as Japanese via the Global Language and Area Studies major (Japanese Track). By combining the power of a strong engineering program, immersion in a foreign language and culture and a year abroad, the five-year program graduates students prepared for rewarding careers in a diverse array of fields around the world.

If you are interested in pursuing the IEP, you should begin/continue to develop your language skills by advancing through sequential language courses while at CCRI. You should also consult with the appropriate URI IEP Language Director for guidance, and continue to do so upon transfer.

In addition to the plans above, the College of Engineering Dean’s Office offers Zoom Drop In Hours each fall and spring semester.

URI will be visiting the CCRI Warwick Campus on Friday, September 22nd for an informational sessions.

URI will host CCRI students on the Kingston and Bay Campuses on Friday, November 3rd for a full day of information sessions, class shadowing, and building tours.
