Contributors Must Provide Financial Information

FAFSA introduces a new term: “Contributor”. A contributor is an individual whose financial information is required on the FAFSA. Contributors may include one or both biological/adoptive parents, stepparent, and student spouse.

Being listed as a contributor on the FAFSA does not mean you are obligated to pay for the student’s education. Each contributor, including the student, will complete only their section of the FAFSA. Students will invite parent(s)/stepparent/spouse to complete their portion by entering their name, Social Security Number (if they have one), date of birth and email address.
