Changes to Student and Parent Loan Eligibility Effective 7/1/2026: One Big Beautiful Bill Act has important changes and new limits to Parent PLUS, Graduate PLUS, and Federal Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized loans.
June 30, 2026: Academic Works portal closes for current students to apply for foundation scholarships.
June 15, 2026: Parent PLUS Loan Supplemental Application is now available.
May 27, 2026: Financial Aid eligibility review (Satisfactory Academic Progress) for returning 2026-27 students will begin today. Students who are not meeting SAP will be notified through URI email. Details on the appeal process for extenuating circumstances are in the email and also available here. This is separate from and in addition to the merit scholarship renewal review that will take place later this week.
April 3, 2026: Summer 2026 Direct Loan Application is now live.

Applying for Financial Aid 2026-27
Each year, all students—both new and returning—need to complete the FAFSA application to determine their aid package. The URI Student Financial Aid team is here to assist you throughout the entire financial aid process. To make an appointment with a Financial Aid counselor, use Starfish.
2025-26 Financial aid dates and deadlines calendarProspective Students
Complete your 2026-27 FAFSA. We expect to release our first batch of financial aid offer letters for admitted students by March 2026. Students may check their FAFSA status by logging into their FAFSA, navigating to the “My Activity” area, then viewing their application status:
- Draft: Your section of the FAFSA form is incomplete.
- In Progress: You provided your consent, approval, and signature to your section of the FAFSA form, but the FAFSA form has not been submitted yet.
- In Review: You have submitted your form and your application is still processing.
- Processed: Your application was processed successfully. No further action is needed.
- Action Required: Your application requires further action from you or your contributor(s). Help is available to Fix Common FAFSA Errors.

Returning Students
- Complete your 2026-27 FAFSA by April.
- We expect to release the first batch of 2026-27 Financial Aid awards for returning students with a FAFSA and full-time Fall 2026 registration in July.
