Applying for Financial Aid 2024-25

The 2024-25 FAFSA was launched on  12/31/2023.  Due to frequent system outages, we suggest waiting until mid-January to begin completing the FAFSA for optimal user experience.

Prospective Students:  Please complete your FAFSA before March 1 if possible. We expect to release our first batch of financial aid award letters for admitted students with a completed FAFSA soon after we begin to receive the FAFSA results. (Note: In light of the significant challenges, delays, and changes to this year’s FAFSA we have decided to waive our March 1 FAFSA priority consideration deadline this year).

Returning URI Students: We suggest that returning students complete their FAFSA by the end of April/early May. Note: In light of the significant challenges, delays, and changes to this year’s FAFSA we have decided to waive our March 1 FAFSA priority consideration deadline this year.  If you haven’t already done so, please submit your FAFSA as soon as you are able. Watch your email for virtual FAFSA Completion Assistance events, which will be hosted by URI Financial Aid experts! We expect to release the first batch of 2024-25 Financial Aid awards for returning students with a FAFSA and full-time Fall 2024 registration in early June.

Note that there have been significant changes to the FAFSA since last year.  Details of the most significant changes can be found on our 2024-25 FAFSA Update site.

Admitted for Spring 2024?  Please be sure to complete the 2023-24 FAFSA as soon as possible, which is available now. Financial aid awards are being released on a rolling basis for Spring 2024 admitted students.

Each year, all students—both new and returning—need to complete the FAFSA application to determine their aid package. Don’t panic.
