The center piece of the General Education at the University of Rhode Island, the Grand Challenge Overlay (G), is the culminating experience for undergraduate students. Through a multifaceted approach, Grand Challenge courses are designed to inspire creative, thoughtful, and active engagement in addressing the challenges and problems facing our world today. Currently, 66 courses, a majority at the 100, 200, and 300 level, introduce students to complex problems and the ethical perspectives to unpack them early in their academic career. Students have the opportunity to meld topics and concepts in an applied setting in their field of study and career interests.
