Geology and Geological Oceanography B.S.

Water and Climate Sciences Specialization

In this specialization, students expand on their foundation in introductory courses on water resources and climatology to develop expertise in one of the most pressing environmental challenges: climate change and its impacts. Alongside gaining a strong understanding of the underlying science, students acquire practical skills in fieldwork as well as data analysis and coding. The program is designed to prepare the next generation of climate experts, ready to contribute to a climate-aware workforce across diverse sectors, including the private industry, non-governmental and nonprofit organizations, as well as state and federal agencies.

In addition to the core courses required for all B.S. in Geology and Geological Oceanography majors, students in the Water and Climate Sciences Specialization must take the following courses:

  • GEO 420 – Regional Climate Dynamics and Modeling (4 credits)
  • GEO 422 – Applied Climate Science (4 credits)
