Branding and Identity Toolkit — Writing Style

Grammatically correct English language is complicated enough. Yet there are additional stylistic conventions to guide writing by all URI and GSO communicators. Consistent application of “house style” for capitalization, punctuation, and more reinforces a high regard for the quality of your copy. It is a crucial aspect of what makes the URI/GSO voice authoritative and impeccable.

When writing on behalf of URI and GSO you must refer to and apply the Style Guides below. And it’s always a good idea to enlist the help of an editor and proofreader. While the first draft captures ideas and meaning, subsequent drafts will refine, polish and perfect your communication.

URI’s External Relations and Communications office published this Editorial Style Guide.

GSO builds on the URI Editorial Style Guide. Refer to this document to learn how to handle the few unique needs and special situations that arise when writing for this School.
