Question 2: $70M in campus upgrades sought for URI, RIC

The Graduate School of Oceanography has helped put the University of Rhode Island on the map, URI’s president says.

A team of scientists recently developed a more precise method of forecasting hurricanes in New England. The university got its largest grant ever, $25 million, to help the Philippines develop more sustainable fisheries. And it recently landed a $100-million research vessel that will be docked at the URI’s Narragansett Bay Campus, one of only three such vessels in the United States.

“That tells you that the graduate school at URI is one of a handful of top institutions for oceanographic research in the United States,” said URI President David Dooley.
