GSO is celebrating 50 years of research, innovation and discovery in 2011. To commemorate its 50th anniversary, GSO will be holding a number of events open to the public on the weekend of June 25-26 at the URI Bay Campus in Narragansett. A “Science Saturday” open house featuring the research, education and outreach activities of the Graduate School of Oceanography, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Marine Fisheries Service and many others will run from 10am to 4pm. That evening, a Celebration Dinner, a ticketed event, will be held under a tent in the Knauss quadrangle. GSO has produced a brief commemorative video, posted on YouTube.  A longer version the video will premiere at the Celebration dinner, and will be shown on PBS at a future date. On Sunday, June 26, James Montgomery and his Friends will perform a “Blues on the Bay” concert from 1pm to 5pm on the Knauss quadrangle, also a ticketed event.  For further details and ticket information, click on www.gso.uri.edu/gso_50
