GSO Welcomes Barbara Braatz

The Graduate School of Oceanography is pleased to announce the appointment of Barbara Braatz as GSO Director of Development to the University of Rhode Island Foundation.

Barbara received a BA in geology from Smith College, studied at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and received a MS in Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  She has broad experience in the private and public sectors, having worked for Anaconda Copper Company, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, program coordinator for a USAID funded biodiversity project in Africa,  Vice President in climate and atmospheric policy at ICF Consulting (Washington, D.C.) and as Executive Director of the Center on Global Change at Duke University.  She has been a climate policy consultant since 2005 working with the U.S. Department of State, USAID projects and the United Nations Development Program.  She has a broad background in marine and environmental science and her experience in the private sector and non-profit world give her the experience to carry out fund raising goals at GSO.

Barbara will be responsible for the oversight and integration of all development activities at GSO. Welcome aboard!
