This event celebrates the progress of the sweeping transformation of the Narragansett Bay Campus, home to the Graduate School of Oceanography, the Department of Ocean Engineering, programs from several other URI colleges, and numerous state, federal and nonprofit partners.
URI’s Narragansett Bay Campus is an interdisciplinary hub of the blue economy for the state of Rhode Island. The Narragansett Bay Campus is in the midst of a multi-year series of infrastructure improvements that will modernize facilities and enable the University to build upon its global reputation for blue economy research, education, and economic development. The revitalization of the Narragansett Bay Campus has been funded by two state-wide, voter-approved general obligation bonds, in 2018 and 2022, as well as state and private support totaling nearly $200 million.
The ceremony will include key speakers, a beam signing, a special tour of the Inner Space Center with Professor Robert Ballard, and several outdoor exhibits highlighting examples of the groundbreaking work conducted on the Bay Campus. Light refreshments will be provided.
