FAQ
- Does the date I submit my housing deposit or housing application impact my housing assignment?
- No, as long as you submit a First-Year Student Housing application before the priority deadline. Housing will assign incoming first-year students to housing after the First-Year Student Housing application priority deadline date according to our First-Year Student Housing Assignments process. However, if you instead submit a Late First-Year Student Housing application, you will be assigned to a room on a space-available basis in the order your application was received. You will not be able to select preferred roommates and may not be assigned to your LLC.
- How do I request a specific building/building style in which I would like to live?
- Incoming first-year students do not have the option to request a specific building/building style. Housing will assign incoming first-year students who submit a First-Year Student Housing application according to our First-Year Student Housing Assignments process.
- How do I opt-in/opt-out of my LLC or my requested roommate’s LLC?
- Incoming first-year students do not have the option to opt-in/opt-out of their LLC or their requested roommate’s LLC. Housing will assign incoming first-year students who submit a First-Year Student Housing application according to our First-Year Student Housing Assignments process.
- Is there separate/preferred housing for me if I am an Honors student?
- There is not separate/preferred housing for Honors students. Housing will assign incoming first-year students who submit a First-Year Student Housing application to their LLC or their requested roommate’s LLC according to our First-Year Student Housing Assignments process.
- Why can’t I find a specific roommate I know I want to live with?
- To search for roommates beginning May 1, you must first have submitted a First-Year Student Housing application. The person you are searching for must also have submitted a First-Year Student Housing application. If you both have submitted applications and are still having difficulty, try using a partial last name and the first letter of the first name of the person you are searching for.
- Why are there no results when I search for a random roommate using search criteria?
- First, make sure you are searching in the correct term that you would be roommates. Next, try using only one criteria to search. If there are too many results, go back and add a second criteria. Repeat until you have a list you’re comfortable with. Usually, using more than 4-5 search criteria narrows the search field so much that there are no results.
- What if I request a student as a roommate, but they won’t accept my request?
- You will need to contact that student or look for someone else to request as a roommate. Housing will not complete roommate requests.
- I received my roommate assignment. Why are they not the roommate I requested?
- There can be several reasons. It’s possible that the person you requested did not accept your request, or they accepted it and later declined it. It’s also possible that the other person requested you and you did not accept the request, or you accepted it and later declined it. It’s also possible that the person you requested was already matched with someone else.
- I received my room assignment. Why is it not in my/my requested roommate’s LLC building?
- While Housing makes every attempt to assign incoming first-year students who submit a First-Year Student Housing application by the priority deadline to their or their roommate’s LLC building, space in LLC building locations can run out. If that occurs, Housing will assign some students to available first-year spaces elsewhere. Any first-year student, whether they live in their LLC building or not, can participate in their LLC’s events.
- I received my roommate/room assignment and would like a change. What can I do?
- Housing usually holds an Open Room Change Request period shortly after first-year student assignments are posted; an email will be sent in advance. During the Open Room Change Request period, you may submit an online form to request a change of your housing assignment. Due to limited available space and shortened time windows, Housing cannot guarantee all requests can be honored but will continue to honor as many as possible over the successive weeks.
- I have decided to live on campus after I paid the $300 enrollment deposit. What do I do to apply for housing?
- If you initially only submitted a $300 Enrollment Deposit, the $200 housing deposit can be paid separately.
