Biography

Dr. Diane Martins’ teaching, research, and service commitments are to public health/community health nursing and populations with limited resources.  She has presented her work nationally and internationally. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing in recognition of her contributions to the disenfranchised, vulnerable, and homeless populations. She is also a faculty member in the interdisciplinary RI Geriatric Education Center funded by the US Department of Health and Human Service Administration (HRSA). She is currently a co-project coordinator on an HHS-SAMHSA grant for a community first-responder program for opioid education in Rhode Island’s rural communities.

At the University of Rhode Island, Dr. Martins has been a multicultural faculty fellow, an interdisciplinary faculty fellow in geriatrics and gerontology, faculty in the President’s Partnership for Food, Hunger and Nutrition and a faculty fellow in Public Service and Ethics. She is the recipient of many awards including the Nightingale Award from the Rhode Island State Nurses Association. Dr. Martins is currently president of the Board of Nurse Registration & Nursing Education, State of Rhode Island Rhode Island and chair of the Board of Directors for Partnership to Reduce Cancer in Rhode Island, Rhode Island Department of Health.
