Biography

Joyce E. Hickey is currently working on her major paper with Professor Mary Sullivan researching the Developmental Origins Theory of stress effect on adult outcomes of psychiatric disorders. She has joined Associate Professor Ginette Ferszt in practice as a volunteer at the RI State Women’s Correctional Facilities providing counseling.

She is concurrently working with Professor Lynne Dunphy as a teaching assistant and has assisted with the RI Center for Nursing Excellence in the recent past. She is also a clinical instructor for the undergraduate psychiatric nursing practicum at Rhode Island Hospital. She is a Sigma Theta Tau member.

In the past she has held a variety of psychiatric nursing positions in research, clinical and administration. Some of these were: Massachusetts Mental Health Center as Director of Quality Improvement and Utilization Review, McLean Hospital Staff Nurse, Cape Cod Visiting Nurses as a Psychiatric Nurse Specialist, Parkwood Hospital as Director of Psychiatric Nursing, South Shore Center as Program Manager for Community services and Director of Nursing services and Butler Hospital as a Nurse Coordinator and research volunteer.
