Online Course Observation Rubric
Our office has created a fillable Online Course Observation rubric to aid department chairs, and other interested persons, in evaluating online courses, similar to the way they would observe and evaluate a face to face class.
As you can see from the preview image below, the rubric is divided into sections. The first section is Course Site Design, which includes ease of navigation, consistency, and logic in navigating the Sakai site. The next section, Instructor Communication, includes an evaluation of instructor accessibility, timeliness, and communication with students. Lastly is Content Delivery, which examines instructor to student engagement, peer to peer engagement, and student engagement with the course material. The rubric may be used as is, or customized to fit your department’s specific needs.
