URI Online’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program is a dynamic, post-master’s program designed to equip nurses like you with the leadership skills and evidence-based expertise needed to transform healthcare systems. Offered entirely online, the program emphasizes traditional, complementary, and integrative health (TCIH) principles, preparing you with the skills to implement patient-centered care strategies that improve health outcomes. With a curriculum focused on innovation, leadership, and real-world application, the DNP program will empower you to drive meaningful change in diverse healthcare settings.

Tuition per credit based on 2025/2026 academic year rates (subject to change): $918
Admissions
- A master’s degree in nursing (GPA minimum 3.30)
- Minimum RN licensure in the state student resides
- Completion of a 300- to 500-level statistics course
- Completion of a master’s level introduction to research course
- Completed application package with all transcripts
- Three letters of reference attesting to the applicant’s capability for doctoral study (academic and professional, at least one from a doctorally prepared nurse)
- One scholarly paper or a master’s thesis or equivalent
- A statement of purpose indicating goals that are congruent with those of the program and institution and a curriculum vitae/resume. Acceptance is based on a full review of the applicant’s record and not any single component.
*Applicants with a GPA lower than 3.3 may be considered for provisional admission — please contact online@uri.edu before applying to discuss the GPA requirement.

Nurse Executive
Responsibilities include leading and managing healthcare organizations, overseeing nursing staff and patient care strategies, developing and implementing policies to improve healthcare quality and efficiency, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to drive innovation in patient care and organizational success.

Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) – Nurse Practitioner
Responsibilities include providing advanced, evidence-based patient care, including diagnosis and treatment, prescribing medications and developing comprehensive treatment plans, and leading quality improvement initiatives and mentor nursing staff.

Healthcare Policy Advocate
Responsibilities include influencing healthcare policies at local, state, and national levels, conducting research and analyzing healthcare legislation to improve patient outcomes, and collaborating with policymakers, organizations, and healthcare professionals to advocate for systemic improvements.
