Summer Orientation 2025

We are so happy to welcome you and your family to the University of Rhode Island community! Join us for New Student Orientation to meet other new students, finalize your course schedule, get a student ID, and learn more about campus. We look forward to meeting you! Go Rhody!

Who Should Attend?

All new students are welcome and encouraged to attend one of our two-day summer Orientation sessions in June. We also offer additional orientation options for family members/supporters, new transfer students (those who are bringing 24 credits or more from another institution), and new international students who live outside the U.S. and are unable to attend orientation in June.

Get Rhody Ready!

During Orientation, you will:

  • Finalize your course schedule with an advisor.
  • Learn about URI’s online tools for finding internships and searching for employment.
  • Explore involvement opportunities like leadership programs, community service, athletics, honors classes, clubs and organizations, and more.
  • Connect with other students in your major.

First-Year and Transfer Students

Select your preferred Orientation session and log into your URI applicant portal to register.

Although we host a one-day Transfer Orientation, new transfer students are welcome to register for any of the two-day options instead, if preferred.

Families and Supporters

While their student is attending their Orientation, families and supporters are invited to attend their own optional two-day orientation to learn about academics, student involvement, campus support resources, and more! Cost is $55 for each guest over age 12 and covers meals and materials. Financial assistance is available. Note that this fee does not cover overnight accommodations, but we do offer on-campus accommodations for an additional fee, as well as recommendations for local hotels and inns.

International Students

Welcome, international students! We offer virtual pre-arrival sessions throughout the summer as well as an in-person Welcome Week Orientation beginning in late August to help you settle in and join the Ram Fam.
