Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this educational activity, pharmacists will be able to:

  • Review the insulin and non-insulin injectables for Diabetes Mellitus which have been introduced to market in the past 5 to 10 years.
  • Describe how to utilize various injectable administration devices.
  • Outline important counseling pearls for each product or group of products.
  • Define appropriate terminology relating to transgender patients and address common barriers to care.
  • Identify aspects of the pharmacist’s role in providing exceptional care to transgender patients.
  • Determine which allergy medications would be most appropriate for a patient based on allergy symptoms and medication side effect profile.
  • Identify over-the-counter (OTC) medications that have multiple drug-drug interactions (DDI).
  • Determine when to make an intervention to prevent a patient from purchasing an OTC that can interact with one of their medications.
  • Recognize several wearable technologies and connected devices available
  • Evaluate the literature regarding wearable technologies and connected devices
  • Propose the utility of wearable technologies and connected devices in the management of chronic diseases

  • Differentiate between insulin and non-insulin products for Diabetes Mellitus.
  • Identify cost-savings options for patients prescribed insulin and non-insulin injectable products.
  • Define appropriate terminology relating to transgender patients and address common barriers to care.
  • Identify over-the-counter (OTC) medications that have multiple drug-drug interactions (DDI) and determine when to alert a pharmacist of a potential DDI.
  • Recognize several wearable technologies and connected devices available
  • Evaluate the literature regarding wearable technologies and connected devices
  • Propose the utility of wearable technologies and connected devices in the management of chronic diseases

Requirements for Credit

  • Program attendees can earn Continuing Pharmacy Education credits for this program by electronically logging onto the website: https://www.uripharmacycpd.org/student, inserting the activity specific code number and successfully completing the activity learning assessment and evaluation form. Participant names will be checked against program attendance sheets for verification of attendance.
  • Participants have 60 days from June 13, 2018 to complete evaluations and report credit.
  • Credits will be electronically transferred to the CPE Monitor where CE statements can be printed. No Statements of Credit will be issued by the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy.

After June 6

  • Pharmacists: $57.95
  • Technicians: $49.95

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations or program substitution requests must be made in writing to the URI Office of Continuing Professional Development at least one week prior to the program, no later than June 6, 2018. A $15 administrative fee will be charged for all refunds. No refunds will be issued for “no shows.”
