B.A. with Religious Studies Emphasis
The study of religion adds a key piece for understanding world problems and political disputes, and finding potential solutions. You will also gain new perspectives in learning about the world’s diverse religious traditions.
If you’re interested in attending seminary or pursuing a graduate degree in religious studies, the major in philosophy with a religious studies emphasis is a great choice. (Note: if you plan to pursue graduate study in philosophy, you should choose the general B.A. option.)
Curriculum
Religious studies track students must complete a minimum of 37 credits (maximum of 48). A total of 120 credits is required for graduation. At least 42 of which must be at the 300 level or above.

- PHL 101: Critical Thinking or PHL 205: Philosophical Topics
- PHL 212: Ethics
- PHL 321: Ancient Philosophy
- PHL 323: Modern Philosophy: Descartes to Kant
- PHL 328: The Philosophy of Religion
- PHL 341: Introduction to Metaphysics or PHL 346: Existential Problems in Human Life
- PHL 490: Senior Seminar in Philosophy
Required Religious Studies Courses:
- RLS 111: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam
- RLS 131: Introduction to Asian Philosophies and Religions
- RLS 226: Christian Thought: Agreements and Differences
- PSC/RLS 221: Islam and its Civilization
- PHL 331: East Asian Thought or PHL/PSC 421: Secularism and Islamism in the Modern World
At least 18 required credits must be at the 300 level or above.
