Percentage of effort is defined as the portion of time spent on an activity expressed as a percentage of time or man months that is charged to a Research grant.Award credit is defined as the allocation of responsibility among the PI and Co-PIs on a grant. The sum of award credit on the Internal Approval for Proposal Transmittal must always equal 100%. The percentage of responsibility is typically decided by the PIs in conjunction with their department/college. - Should my award go to the URI Foundation or through the Division of Research and Economic Development?
Policy for Grants Contracts and Gifts - Does my RPPR/Carryforward/Revised budget/get routed through InfoEd?
RPPRs do not need to be routed through InfoEd. All RPPR submissions require that COI disclosures for anyone who is independently involved in the conduct, design or reporting be completed in the InfoEd COI module. This should be done when you are requesting your RPPR be submitted in ERA commons. If disclosures are not completed, we will not submit your RPPR until all forms are submitted. Please forward RPPR 48 hours prior to the deadline. - How do I prepare a RPPR?

When you are completing your Research Performance Progress Reports (RPPRs) for NOAA and are reporting publications (box 29), please make sure to indicate whether or not the list of publications was submitted to NOAA Institutional Repository (IR). Remember that submitting the list to the IR is a requirement for all CI awards, whereas attaching a complete list to the RPPR is optional. When filling out the box 29, you can either confirm that the list has been submitted to the IR, or , if this hasn’t been done yet, indicate when you are planning to submit it. Some of you had questions about the timing of this submission. CIPO Annual Reporting Guidance did not require you to submit the list at the same time as the report, although we’d discussed that doing these two submissions at the same time is a good practice. We expect to address this detail in our FY20 guidance. As a reminder, NOAA IR Frequently Asked Questions page has instructions on how you can submit publications as a batch. Grant Recipient Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR) User Guide - Who can be PI (Principal Investigator)?
A Principal Investigator (PI) is an individual responsible for the preparation, conduct and administration of a grant or contract. The PI and Co-PIs of a sponsored project agree to accept responsibility for the scientific and fiscal conduct of the project and to provide all required award deliverables.
PI’s must be tenure track a Full Professor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Emeritus Professor or Marine Research Scientists (URI-GSO). For Emeritus Professors, colleges may have internal review criteria that must be followed. Senior Staff maybe may serve as PIs if they meet the University criteria and have approval from their Director or Department Head. An Adjunct Professor, postdoctoral fellow or student may be recognized as a Co-Investigator.
