Training Core

The goal of the Training Core is to establish a robust biomedical workforce pipeline in Rhode Island. This involves research training experiences for students, post-doctoral researchers, and even faculty across the state of Rhode Island.

Over the lifetime of RI-INBRE, over 1500 undergraduates have been trained by the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program, and over 75% of those former SURF participants are now pursuing graduate degrees in biomedical fields or are working in biomedical careers. Alumni from the SURF, Bridge to Graduate School, and Teaching Postdoctoral Fellows programs are now starting biotech companies and are employed as assistant professors at academic institutions in Rhode Island and elsewhere.
